About me

Hi, I'm Kyla!

I am a Mexican-American Queens native, passionate about advocating for the systemic inequalities underserved and underrepresented communities experience. I hold a BA degree in Sociology and an MS degree in Applied Digital Sociology. During my academic career, I have concentrated on the intersectionality of race, gender, and class, applying this in my personal life and work.

I research and write about the impact of systemic injustice on intersectional identities experienced by Latinx/e communities.

I am passionate about using applied research methods to create questions of equity and provide solutions. I collaborate with community members, non-profits, and NGOs to bring about change, believing in empowering community members to be change-makers and prioritizing data accessibility and transparency.

I am interested in helping create change in communities, prioritizing participatory and community-based research.
